Houston's Premiere Off-Broadway Theater 16th Season of staging Houston Premieres Play Schedule: November, 2008 through April, 2009 A new season devoted to ENTERTAINMENT - after Hurricane Ike, the stock market roller coaster and an upcoming presidential election that promises more mud slinging, Theater LaB Houston is pleased to present a roster that includes Hollywood's Golden Years, a wicked comedy of Twilight Zone intrigue and two hit , critically acclaimed musicals from this year's Toronto and New York Fringe Festivals..........
THE RECEPTIONIST by Adam Bock Regional Premiere
A Dark Comedy with a Twilight Zone twist..................... At the start of a typical day in the Northeast Office, Beverly deals effortlessly with ringing phones and her colleague's romantic troubles. But the appearance of a charming rep from the Central Office disrupts the friendly routine. And, as the true nature of the company's business becomes apparent, The Receptionist raises disquieting, provocative questions about the consequences of complicity with evil. TLH is pleased to present the Regional Premiere of one of the theater's current hot playwrights - Adam Bock, winner of the 2007 Obie Award for his play, The Thugs. This spring Playwrights Horizon presented the world's premiere of his latest play, The Drunken City. The Receptionist received its world premiere at the Manhattan Theater Club in October, 2007. "Mr. Bock's poisoned Post-it note of a play" New York Times "Bock's intense initial focus on the routine goes to the heart of The Receptionist's pointed, painfully timely allegory...elliptical, provocative play..." Time Out New York Click here to see Everett Evans review in the Houston Chronicle Friday's and Saturday's at 8pm through December 13.
